Return of the Peugeot E-208 GTI in a 100% electric version

The GTi badge is back at Peugeot and returns with a major new twist: for the first time, it is associated with a 100% electric model. The chosen model is the new Peugeot E-208 GTi, a sporty version of the French brand’s well-known electric hatchback, which promises to recover part of the spirit of the small sports cars that marked generations.

The return comes around 40 years after the launch of the iconic Peugeot 205 GTI, one of the most emblematic models in the brand’s history. After the Peugeot 308 GTi ended production in 2020, the badge disappeared from the Peugeot range. Now, it is preparing to return in a completely different phase of the automotive industry, where electrification is also beginning to gain space in the world of more emotional models.

An electric GTi with electric DNA

The new Peugeot E-208 GTi will be officially revealed at Le Mans on June 12, exactly one year after Peugeot presented the prototype that anticipated this return. The chosen location is no coincidence, as the presentation takes place in the context of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a historic event for the automotive world and also for the brand itself.

According to the information released, the production model should remain very close to the prototype already known. Visually, this means a more aggressive stance, larger wheels, widened tracks, bumpers with a sportier design, and several red accents, elements that help distinguish this version from the other Peugeot 208 models.

Inside, a sportier atmosphere is also expected, with more supportive seats and details inspired by Peugeot’s GTi heritage. Among these elements may be red carpets, a visual connection to the legendary 205 GTI.

More power and a sportier driving experience

The final specifications have not yet been officially confirmed by Peugeot, but everything indicates that the new Peugeot E-208 GTi may feature a 206 kW electric motor, equivalent to 280 hp, and 345 Nm of torque.

If confirmed, these figures will place the E-208 GTi in a very competitive position among small electric sports cars. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h should be around 5.7 seconds, while top speed should be electronically limited to 180 km/h.

But a GTi is not just about power. To reinforce its dynamic behavior, the model is expected to feature a mechanical limited-slip differential, widened tracks, suspension lowered by 30 mm, hydraulic bump stops, and a rear anti-roll bar. The braking system should also match the performance increase, with 355 mm front discs and four-piston calipers.

Range of up to 350 km

As for range, the official figures are not yet final. Even so, the prototype presented by Peugeot announced up to 350 km in the combined WLTP cycle, thanks to a 54 kWh battery.

This value represents a lower range than that of the conventional Peugeot E-208, which is expected considering the focus on a setup more geared toward performance. Ultimately, the purpose of the Peugeot E-208 GTi will not be only to cover more kilometers, but rather to recover the emotional connection between driver and car, now in a 100% electric approach.

The first units are expected to start reaching European customers during the second half of the year, although the detailed calendar for each market still has to be confirmed by the brand.

The new Peugeot E-208 GTi therefore marks a symbolic moment for Peugeot. The GTi badge returns in a new era, without a combustion engine, but with the same intention as always: to offer a sportier, more special, and more exciting version of a compact model.
