All about the 2025 MotoGP in Portimão
The Algarve International Circuit, in Portimão, is getting ready to host the Qatar Airways Portuguese Grand Prix 2025 between November 7th and 9th, the penultimate round of the MotoGP World Championship. The event promises to be one of the most exciting of the year, as it marks the “Last Dance” — Miguel Oliveira’s final MotoGP race on Portuguese soil before his move to the World Superbike Championship in 2026.
A historic weekend
With a seating capacity of 90,000, the Algarve International Circuit (AIA) once again becomes the epicenter of world motorcycling. The organization expects around 170,000 spectators over the three days of competition, a figure similar to that of 2024.
Jaime Costa, director of the AIA, highlighted that ticket sales are progressing at the same pace as last year and believes that Miguel Oliveira’s farewell will attract even more fans. The Portuguese rider, who won at this circuit in 2020, returns to a track that brings back great memories — and some tough moments — in what will be his seventh and final MotoGP season before joining BMW in World Superbikes.
Since the Portuguese Grand Prix settled in Portimão in 2020, the Algarve circuit has hosted thrilling races and unforgettable moments. Miguel Oliveira, Fabio Quartararo, and Francesco Bagnaia are among the riders who have stood on the top step of the podium.
This year, the event takes place without champions Jorge Martin (Aprilia) and Marc Márquez (Ducati), both sidelined due to injury, opening the door for new surprises in the 21st of 22 championship rounds.
Alongside the main competition, the weekend also features Moto2, Moto3, and MotoE races, as well as various fan zones, food courts, and brand exhibition areas celebrating the world of motorsport.
Economic and touristic impact in the Algarve
More than just a sporting event, MotoGP in Portimão is a true economic engine for the region. According to data from Unicre, during the 2024 edition, card payments increased by 11% among Portuguese spectators and 16% among foreigners in the Algarve. The estimated economic impact for 2025 ranges between 70 and 80 million euros, covering sectors such as hospitality, catering, transport, telecommunications, and international promotion.
Jaime Costa emphasized that MotoGP strengthens Portugal’s image as a tourism destination and host of major international events, consolidating the Algarve’s position as a global reference in motorsport.
Access, transport, and recommendations
To ensure a safe and smooth experience, visitors are advised to arrive early and use the free shuttle buses available between the circuit and the cities of Portimão, Lagos, and Figueira, operating from 08:00 to 18:30.
Those traveling by car can park in designated lots, with free access or paid parking near the main grandstand. All parking areas will have 24-hour security and support staff.
Gates will open at 07:30 on Friday, 07:40 on Saturday, and 08:40 on Sunday, with on-track activities starting at 08:30.
Among the main rules, note that alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the grandstands, being only allowed in clearly marked outdoor areas. Entry to the venue requires both a valid ticket and an identification document.
Weekend schedule
Friday (Nov 7): Free practice sessions for Moto3, Moto2, MotoGP, and MotoE.
Saturday (Nov 8): Qualifying sessions and MotoGP Sprint race.
Sunday (Nov 9): Moto2 race (11:15), MotoGP race (13:00), and Moto3 race (14:30).
Farewell of “The Falcon”
Miguel Oliveira, born in Almada and currently 30 years old, has competed in 115 MotoGP races, claiming 5 victories, 7 podiums, and 1 pole position — achieved in Portimão in 2020. His farewell to the Portuguese crowd will be an emotional moment, not only for his fans but also for national motorsport as a whole.
The Portuguese rider is one of only four to have won at the Algarve circuit, alongside Quartararo, Bagnaia, and Jorge Martin. The AIA, inaugurated in 2008, once again becomes the perfect stage to celebrate talent, speed, and passion for motorcycle racing.
