The 3rd edition of the Benedita Classics Festival brought together more than 140 automotive relics
The passion for the automotive world once again brought together hundreds of enthusiasts for the 3rd edition of the Clássicos Benedita Festival. The event, organised by Benecar – Cidade do Automóvel and Vitorinos Seguros, featured a special appearance by our friend Fernando Mendes and the GTI TVI show. It was a true tribute to automotive history, with more than 140 classic vehicles taking part in a day filled with experiences, tradition, and community spirit.
The day started early, with the “Drive-In” check-in opening at 8:00 a.m. Upon arrival, participants were greeted at the wheel of their machines and, through their license plate, received their Participation Kit. Inside the carefully prepared bag were the roadbook, programme, event stickers, goodies, official event polos, a mini badge for the windshield, and other relevant information for the drive. Each classic vehicle was also given a numbered sticker, used to divide participants into two distinct groups: Group Benecar and Group Vitorinos.
After collecting their kits, participants headed into the Cidade do Automóvel for a welcome breakfast. Once everyone was gathered, a general briefing was held and, around 9:30 a.m., the two groups set off on different routes.
Both routes began with an impressive parade through the centre of Benedita, drawing the attention of onlookers. Group Vitorinos headed towards the Atelier do Doce in Alfeizerão, passing through Vimeiro. Group Benecar set course for São Martinho do Porto, with stops in Turquel, Évora de Alcobaça and Alcobaça, where they passed by the iconic Monastery of Santa Maria of Alcobaça. Along the way, the organisation surprised participants by handing out ice creams and cold water — all while on the move — to help beat the heat.
At the Atelier do Doce, participants were welcomed with the famous “Bolas de Berlim” (Portuguese doughnuts) and cold drinks, along with a visit to the renowned pastry shop’s museum — a true delight for all who passed through. In São Martinho do Porto, beside the stunning bay, they were greeted with a feast: spit-roasted pork, “pica-pau”, black pudding, chorizo, and other regional delicacies. A particularly refreshing moment by the sea, especially with temperatures reaching 40ºC throughout the day.
The two groups reunited in São Martinho do Porto. There (just like before the start of the drive at Benecar), they shared stories, exchanged thoughts about their cars, and took time to admire the other vehicles on display. For passersby, it was a unique chance to see these automotive gems up close.
On the return journey, the groups swapped routes: those who had visited the Atelier do Doce headed to São Martinho do Porto, and vice versa. Everyone returned to the Cidade do Automóvel in the early afternoon, where a buffet lunch was waiting.
Then came the award ceremony and prize giveaways: the 1937 Wolseley 10/40 won the Oldest Car category; Mr. João Reis, driving a 1988 Renault 4L all the way from Portimão, was named Furthest Participant; the 1989 Opel Corsa A Junior Cup Edition took home the Best Restored Car award; and finally, the 1979 Ford Mustang was voted Most Elegant Car — the last two based on votes cast by the participants themselves. There was also a lively prize raffle where attendees had the chance to win various gifts such as power banks, beach towels, straw hats, car air fresheners, and more. A fun and engaging moment that reinforced the day’s atmosphere of camaraderie and relaxation.
The afternoon included a guided tour of the Cidade do Automóvel, lively entertainment with a live DJ, music, socialising between participants and even a pool set up in the park to cool off the more adventurous. A relaxed and well-deserved end to a day that will stay in the memory of all who experienced it.
The 3rd edition of the Clássicos Benedita Festival once again confirmed the success of an event that has become a true highlight in the region. A celebration of cars, passion, and friendship.
Will we see you again next year?
