Via Verde increases prices from April 10: here are the main changes

Via Verde will update its pricing table starting on April 10, with increases across several services and plans. For many drivers, this change may go unnoticed at first, but the truth is that there are some relevant differences, especially for those who only use the transponder in certain months of the year.

According to the new pricing table released by the company, one of the most visible changes affects Via Verde Autoestrada. In the monthly payment plan, the price rises from €1.03 to €1.04 per month, or €0.54 with the promotional e-statement discount. In the annual payment plan, the fee increases from €12.25 to €12.39, and may drop to €6.39 with e-statement.

Still, it is in Via Verde Mobilidade Leve that the most significant increase can be seen. This plan is aimed at drivers who use the transponder only during certain periods, paying only in the months when it is used. Until now, users paid €2.09 for each month of use or €1.59 with e-statement. From April 10 onwards, those amounts will increase to €2.49 and €1.99, respectively.

In practical terms, this increase makes the plan less attractive for those who use the service over several months each year. If previously six months of use were enough for it to make sense compared with the annual fee, under the new pricing table it will take five months for the annual option to become more worthwhile.

What changes for drivers

For those who use Via Verde regularly on motorways, the annual increase is relatively small. However, for more occasional users, especially those subscribed to Mobilidade Leve, the increase is much more significant.

According to the published reports, this increase is around 20% to 25% in this plan, making it the biggest jump in the new pricing table. This means that drivers who only use the transponder in a few months of the year are likely to feel the impact of this update more clearly.

On the other hand, not everything is changing. Some services will keep the same prices. This is the case, for example, with the purchase of a Via Verde transponder exclusively for tolls, which remains at €45, or €37.50 with e-statement. The prepaid plan, available only at CTT, also keeps its current prices.

Among the other services listed in the table, there are also updates to items such as replacement devices, shipping fees, paper statements, adhesive strips, and other service-related costs.

Is it worth reviewing your plan?

For many motorists, this may be a good time to review the plan they currently have. Those who use Via Verde frequently may still benefit more from an annual solution. Meanwhile, those who only use the transponder occasionally should do the maths, because the price difference in the pay-per-use plan is now more relevant to the overall budget.

At a time when car-related costs continue to rise, this Via Verde update is one more detail worth paying attention to. It may not seem like a major increase at first glance, but once monthly fees, annual charges and other related costs are added together, the impact becomes more noticeable.

For those who drive every day, or simply like to keep their motoring expenses under control, knowing these changes in advance may help avoid surprises.
