The new Volkswagen ID.3 Neo is coming
The first fully electric model of Volkswagen’s ID family is about to receive a major renewal. The well-known Volkswagen ID.3, originally introduced in 2019, is now preparing to enter a new phase of its life, with important changes in design, technology, and even its designation: it will now be called ID.3 Neo.
The choice of the name is not entirely new within the German brand. During the model’s early development phase, “Neo” was one of the internal designations used. Volkswagen is now bringing that reference back to symbolically mark this new stage of its compact electric vehicle.
A refreshed look
The update to the ID.3 promises to be noticeable at first glance. The first sketches released by Volkswagen show changes mainly at the front, with new headlight clusters and a redesigned bumper, aligning the model with the new visual language emerging in other electric vehicles from the brand.
At the rear, the change is more subtle but still relevant: the tailgate will now be painted in the body color, replacing the contrasting finish that characterized the current version. The lights also receive minor adjustments and the wheels feature new designs.
Interior changes requested by drivers
One of the most anticipated changes happens inside the cabin. Volkswagen has confirmed that physical buttons will return to the steering wheel in upcoming models of the ID family.
In recent years, many users criticized the touch controls that replaced traditional buttons. The brand has now decided to take a step back and return to a more practical and intuitive solution for everyday driving.
More technology and new features
In addition to the refreshed design, the ID.3 Neo is expected to include a new generation of software that will allow the addition of several technological features.
Among the expected updates is an evolution of Travel Assist, which will be able to detect traffic lights, helping the driver assistance system become even more intelligent. Another expected feature is One Pedal Driving, which allows acceleration and braking to be controlled almost entirely with the accelerator pedal.
The model is also expected to benefit from other technologies arriving in Volkswagen’s electric range, such as:
Innovision infotainment system;
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), allowing external devices to be powered with up to 3.6 kW;
Optional digital key, enabling the car to be unlocked and started using a smartphone or smartwatch.
When will it be presented?
The global presentation of the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo is expected to take place in mid-April. For now, the final specifications have not yet been disclosed, so possible updates regarding motors, batteries, and range remain open.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen continues to evolve its electric lineup. Models such as the ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7 will be the first to receive the new generation of software, accompanied by technical improvements, including new electric motors and more efficient batteries in some versions.
Everything indicates that the ID.3 Neo will mark another step in the evolution of Volkswagen’s electric strategy, reinforcing the brand’s focus on compact electric vehicles for the European market.
