Škoda celebrates 130 years with special project created by students
28 students from Škoda Auto's Professional School of Mechanical Engineering are building a unique car that pays homage to the brand's 130 years and its historical connection to cycling. This is the 10th prototype to be developed under the ‘Student Car’ programme, an initiative that brings together creativity, engineering and passion for the automotive world.
The school year at Škoda Auto ends, as is tradition, with the presentation of a new model designed by its students. This year, the challenge was even more special: to celebrate the legacy of the brand, founded in 1895, with an innovative and irreverent concept. The body and structure are ready and the vehicle is now being painted before the big reveal in June.
Maren Gräf, a member of the Škoda Auto Management Board responsible for People and Culture, emphasises: ‘This project is a symbol of the dedication and talent of our students. In such a landmark year for our history, expectations were high - and they were clearly exceeded.’
Creativity with expert support
Each edition of ‘Student Car’ challenges participants to design and build an original model that adds value to the Škoda range. After the first sketches, the construction phase follows, where creativity meets technique. The whole process is supported by Škoda Auto professionals in the areas of Technical Development, Design and Engineering.
With hundreds of hours of work already invested, the students are now entering the final stage: adding colour and visual identity to the project, with an exclusive paint job that reinforces the unique character of this creation.
Betting on the future of technical training
Since 2013, Škoda Auto, in collaboration with the KOVO union, has invested more than 18 million euros in modernising the Škoda Academy. The upgrading of the infrastructure has made it possible to create a new space dedicated to the Student Car project, now with workshops specially designed for electric mobility and digitalisation, two strategic areas for the future of the automotive sector. These investments not only raise the quality of technical education, but also contribute to the continuous qualification of Škoda Auto employees in a constantly evolving sector.
The official name of the new model will be announced in the coming weeks, but one thing is certain: the 10th Škoda Student Car promises to be a memorable tribute to the brand's history and a showcase for the talent of the new generations.
