A car so gamer that it should come with a remote control!

Hyundai has once again surprised us with the launch of the INSTEROID, an irreverent Concept Car (a prototype created by brands to showcase new design ideas, technology or functionalities) that reinterprets the popular Hyundai INSTER in a futuristic, personality-laden version. Presented for the first time at an exclusive event in Seoul, the INSTEROID combines sporty design, innovative technology and strong inspiration from the world of video games.

Based on the Hyundai INSTER urban electric SUV (a finalist for the World Car of the Year 2025 award) the INSTEROID takes the driving experience to the next level. Created by Hyundai's design team in Europe, this Concept Car stands out for its bold aesthetics and ability to provide an immersive driving experience.

The name INSTEROID is a fusion of ‘INSTER’ and ‘STEROID’, reflecting the model's energetic and muscular character. After the INSTER CROSS, the adventurous-looking version presented in 2024, the INSTEROID reinforces the model's position as a platform for continuous innovation.

Design

The INSTEROID was developed with a clear purpose: to challenge conventions and create emotions. With a sporty look markedly influenced by the gaming universe, it features an extended body, rims optimised for urban circuits, a rear spoiler, an aerodynamic diffuser and air intakes in the wheel arches - all designed to maximise performance.

The cabin follows a minimalist and functional approach, with bucket seats, a roll cage and a dashboard focused on the driving experience. Added to this is a unique sound signature that reinforces the vehicle's immersive character.

Technology, personalisation and sustainability

INSTEROID is all about interaction and personalisation: Drift mode promises strong thrills, while the Beat House sound system and message grid allow for a more playful connection between driver and vehicle. Boost icons scattered around the car represent different ‘personalities’, intensifying the emotional connection with the user.

On a structural level, it uses light and sustainable materials. The interior stands out for its use of 3D fabrics knitted from recycled yarns in a unique, customised piece, an approach that reflects Hyundai's commitment to sustainability.

A premiere with impact and a commitment to the digital world

The INSTEROID was presented at the Peaches D8NE space in Seoul, at an event aimed at journalists and content creators. As well as showing the INSTER and INSTER CROSS models, the event included interactive experiences such as augmented reality games where users could transform an INSTER into the INSTEROID.

During the presentation event, Hyundai created a space entirely dedicated to interacting with the INSTEROID through various games. One of the highlights was a game developed by the brand itself, in which players drive an INSTER and collect special items (the so-called steroid items) that make the car evolve into the INSTEROID (all in a time attack style). This game will be available to the public in April, accessible directly via a link, without the need to install any application.

But the news doesn't stop there. The INSTEROID Kart was also presented, a special version that will be integrated into the popular Kartrider Rush+ game, reinforcing Hyundai's connection with the gaming universe and new generations.

The INSTEROID will be on display at the Seoul Mobility Show between 3 and 13 April and will subsequently be presented at other major automotive events in Europe and Asia, as a halo model that reinforces the appeal of the INSTER range.

Since its launch, Hyundai INSTER has won over drivers all over the world. With a strong following in the Korean and European markets, it is set to expand to regions such as Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Central America and South America as early as 2025.
