Forget regular Uber: in Japan you can now call a drift car

Uber has surprised car culture fans by launching a unique new experience in Japan called Uber Drift, a special service that turns a simple ride into a real Japanese-style drift session.

The initiative was created by Uber Japan in partnership with professional drivers and several iconic JDM cars, giving users the opportunity to experience something inspired by Japanese drift culture and famous series such as Initial D.

A ride… but in drift mode

Unlike a traditional Uber trip, Uber Drift was designed as a promotional entertainment experience.

Participants can book special sessions where they are driven by professional drift drivers in specially prepared cars, all taking place in controlled and safe environments.

According to information released by Uber Japan, the experience includes well-known Japanese car culture models such as:

• Nissan Silvia S15

• Nissan 180SX

The sessions take place at the famous Mobara Twin Circuit in Japan and include around 90 minutes of track experience.

How much does it cost?

Uber Drift is definitely not cheap, but then again, it’s not exactly a normal Uber.

According to Uber Japan, pricing starts at 30,000 yen per group (around €180 euros), with each booking allowing between 1 and 4 people.

The price includes:

• Uber Black premium transportation

• round-trip transport from Tokyo

• circuit access

• drift experience with professional drivers

Uber also confirmed that only 4 groups per day will be accepted, making the experience very limited.

Drift remains one of Japan’s biggest automotive symbols

Drifting was born in Japan and became one of the most famous disciplines in global car culture.

With drivers controlling extreme sideways slides with precision, the sport gained worldwide popularity thanks to video games, movies and anime connected to JDM culture.

Now, Uber has decided to use that exact automotive identity to create a campaign completely different from its usual transport services.

How does Uber Drift work?

Bookings are made directly through the Uber app in Japan.

According to the company, users simply need to:

• open the app

• select the “Uber Drift” icon

• choose a date and number of participants

• confirm the reservation

The experience will be available between June 3 and July 1, 2026.

Will it come to other countries?

For now, Uber has not confirmed any expansion of Uber Drift to other markets.

Even so, the initiative is already generating huge curiosity among car enthusiasts around the world especially fans of JDM culture and Japanese drifting.

Because let’s be honest: calling an Uber and having a drift car show up is not something you see every day.
