BMW reveals Vision BMW Alpina, V8 that looks to the future
BMW has officially unveiled the new Vision BMW Alpina, an impressive luxury coupé powered by a V8 engine that previews the next generation of Alpina models under direct BMW control.
The concept was presented at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2026 in Italy and marks the beginning of a new era for Alpina, now officially integrated into the BMW Group. According to the brand, the Vision BMW Alpina is “a design study announcing a new chapter for a brand defined by sophistication, comfort and performance”.
For those unfamiliar with the name, Alpina is a historic German tuner specializing in BMW models, known for creating more exclusive, luxurious and comfortable versions of the Bavarian brand’s vehicles.
Unlike BMW M, which focuses on a more aggressive and sporty driving experience, BMW Alpina follows a different philosophy: understated luxury, long-distance comfort and a more refined “Grand Touring” experience.
According to BMW itself, Alpina now represents “BMW’s most exclusive luxury and performance brand”, combining precision engineering, handcrafted refinement and a distinct identity within the German group.
A massive V8 coupé with futuristic styling
The Vision BMW Alpina immediately stands out because of its proportions.
The concept measures around 5.2 meters in length and features a long, elegant silhouette inspired by classic grand tourers, but reinterpreted with futuristic styling.
Among its most striking design details are, front design inspired by classic Alpina models, huge 20-spoke Alpina wheels, minimalist profile, futuristic lighting signature, exclusive details from the new Alpina design language.
Despite the modern appearance, BMW retained several historic elements that directly reference some of Alpina’s most iconic models.
There is still a V8 under the hood
At a time when many manufacturers are abandoning combustion engines, BMW decided to keep a powerful V8 engine in this concept.
According to the brand, the Vision BMW Alpina was developed to combine speed, comfort and smooth driving three of Alpina’s historic pillars.
Several international sources point to figures above 700 hp, although BMW has not officially confirmed the final power output.
Luxury, comfort and “Speed Refined”
Unlike the more aggressive BMW M models, Alpina’s future philosophy will continue focusing on a combination of performance, luxury and comfort for long-distance travel.
BMW itself describes the concept with the expression “Speed Refined”, reinforcing the idea of a more sophisticated and less extreme kind of performance.
According to BMW Blog, Adrian van Hooydonk stated that future BMW Alpina models are expected to reach speeds close to 300 km/h. The BMW Group design chief did not reveal the concept’s exact power figures, but confirmed that the models will continue using V8 engines and will be “faster than many normal BMWs, but without feeling like race cars”.
When will the first models arrive?
Although the Vision BMW Alpina is only a concept, it clearly previews the direction of the brand’s future models.
According to several international sources, the first production model of the new Alpina era could arrive in 2027 and may be based on the BMW 7 Series. An SUV derived from the X7 is also rumored to be part of the brand’s plans.
With this concept, BMW shows that it does not intend to transform Alpina into a simple electric performance division, but rather into a new benchmark for luxury, comfort and discreet performance.
