Leiria Sobre Rodas is returning in 2026, but this year with a few changes. Leiria City Council has confirmed that the automotive event will take place in a special format, together with the Rallye Vidreiro Centro de Portugal, scheduled for November 20 and 21.
The decision follows the consequences caused by Storm Kristin, which forced the local authority to adjust the usual organisation and calendar of the event.
Despite the changes, Leiria Sobre Rodas promises to retain its identity, combining car exhibitions, experiences related to the motoring world and entertainment for automotive enthusiasts.
Leiria Sobre Rodas 2026 joins Rallye Vidreiro
Considered one of Portugal’s leading automotive events, Leiria Sobre Rodas usually attracts thousands of visitors, with exhibitions of classic cars, supercars and various activities dedicated to the automotive world.
In 2026, the organisers opted for a different solution, integrating the event into the Rallye Vidreiro Centro de Portugal, a competition organised by the Clube Automóvel da Marinha Grande.
The rally will take place on November 20 and 21 and will use the area surrounding the Dr. Magalhães Pessoa Stadium in Leiria as its operational base.
This collaboration will make it possible to concentrate efforts and bring together two important initiatives for the region, offering the public an experience that combines motorsport competition and vehicle exhibitions.
According to Leiria City Council, the decision aims to ensure the continuity of an event with a strong impact on the local economy, in a year when recovery from the damage caused by Storm Kristin remains a priority.
The Mayor, Gonçalo Lopes, highlighted precisely the importance of keeping Leiria Sobre Rodas on the 2026 calendar, even in a format adapted to the circumstances.
Leiria Rally Gold Challenge promises to bring excitement on Sunday
One of the most anticipated moments of this edition will be the Leiria Rally Gold Challenge, scheduled for Sunday, November 22, after the Rallye Vidreiro winners have been crowned.
This initiative is expected to bring together some of Portugal’s leading drivers behind the wheel of Rally2, Rally4 and Rally5 cars.
The objective is to provide a motorsport spectacle closer to the public, in an experience that complements the competition held over the previous days.
In addition to the Rally Gold Challenge, Leiria City Council intends to preserve some of the most characteristic elements of Leiria Sobre Rodas, including themed exhibitions and areas dedicated to the automotive world.
This way, visitors will still be able to enjoy different experiences within a single event, even if the 2026 edition has a different scale and organisation from usual.
Leiria Sobre Rodas expected to return to its usual format in 2027
Leiria City Council has already clarified that the integration with Rallye Vidreiro is an exceptional solution and does not represent a permanent change to the event’s concept.
The aim is to restore the usual Leiria Sobre Rodas format from 2027 onwards, with editions also planned for 2028 and 2029.
This continuity demonstrates the importance the event has gained within Portugal’s automotive scene.
In 2024, Leiria Sobre Rodas welcomed around 80,000 visitors, a figure that reinforces its impact on promoting the city and boosting the local economy.
With exhibitions of classic cars, supercars and other activities, the event has become a meeting point for motoring enthusiasts, attracting visitors from various regions of the country.
In 2026, despite the exceptional circumstances, the organisers intend to preserve this connection with the public and continue an initiative that has already become part of the region’s motoring events calendar.
The combination of Leiria Sobre Rodas and Rallye Vidreiro therefore represents an opportunity to keep Leiria’s automotive tradition alive, bringing together competition, exhibitions and entertainment over the same weekend.
For car and rally enthusiasts, the weekend of November 20 to 22, 2026 promises plenty of excitement in Leiria, in a different edition that still retains the passion for the motoring world.
