The best-selling cars at Benecar in 2025

The year 2025 was marked by very clear choices on the part of Benecar’s customers. Over the twelve months—and even though the year had not yet ended at the time of writing—sales data reveal consistent patterns, both in terms of the most sought-after brands and the models that most often “received the ribbon” in Benecar – Cidade do Automóvel’s delivery pavilion, from where they head to our customers’ homes.

Between compact SUVs, city cars and models already well known to the Portuguese public, preferences reflect a balance between reliability, comfort, efficiency and value for money.

The best-selling brands in 2025

In the annual overview, Peugeot stood out as the brand with the highest sales volume at Benecar in 2025. Its strong presence across several segments, combined with a modern range adapted to everyday needs, helped consolidate this leading position.

Volkswagen follows closely behind, maintaining very consistent demand throughout the year, driven by well-established models and a solid reputation for quality and reliability.

Mercedes-Benz ranks third, reflecting steady demand for more premium offerings, where comfort, technology and brand image continue to play an important role in purchase decisions.

Brands such as Fiat, Opel and SEAT also delivered very strong performances, all with significant representation in the segments most sought after by Benecar’s customers, particularly superminis and compact SUVs.

The best-selling models at Benecar

When analysing the ranking by model, the standout of 2025 is the Nissan Qashqai, which led sales throughout the year. This SUV continues to be a highly valued choice, remaining a benchmark in its segment.

Peugeot once again gains prominence with two models among the best-sellers: the Peugeot 2008, highly sought after in the compact SUV category, and the Peugeot 208, which continues to be a safe and popular choice among city cars.

Other models with strong sales performance included the Volkswagen T-Cross, SEAT Arona, Volkswagen Taigo, SEAT Ibiza, Opel Corsa and Volkswagen T-Roc—well-known names with proven track records in the Portuguese market.

How sales evolved throughout the year

Month-by-month analysis shows that 2025 was a balanced year, without extreme peaks, but with some clear trends.

In the first months of the year, superminis and compact SUVs dominated customer preferences, with particular emphasis on models such as the Peugeot 208, SEAT Ibiza and SEAT Arona.

During spring and summer, SUVs gained even greater prominence, with the Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 2008 and Volkswagen T-Roc leading sales for several consecutive months.

In the final quarter, greater diversity emerged at the top of the sales charts, with models such as the Fiat 500, Volkswagen Polo, Citroën Berlingo and Opel Corsa standing out, reflecting more varied customer needs.

What these figures reveal

The 2025 sales data confirm a trend that has been consolidating over time. Customers continue to favour practical, versatile cars suited to daily use. Compact SUVs remain the most sought after, but city cars continue to play an important role in purchase decisions.

Another relevant aspect highlighted by the 2025 figures is customers’ clear preference for European brands. Brands such as Peugeot, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Fiat, Opel and SEAT account for the majority of sales, reflecting continued confidence in European engineering, more predictable maintenance costs and a strong adaptation to the needs of the national market. Even models of non-European origin, such as the Nissan Qashqai, benefit from this perception, given their development and production with the European market in mind—helping to explain their strong performance throughout the year.
